Sons of Anarchy...has my attention. I've always had a soft spot for FX shows, even though most seem to go down hill fast, but this one already has me chomping at the bit to buy it on DVD, and the first season isn't even over.
I just hope it doesn't turn into another Rescue Me. I mean, I know I complain about all shows turning into soap operas that focus more on who is sleeping with who then a true story, but damn. That show took it to another level, and I haven't even watched it regularly since season two.
In other news, I'm house shopping. I hate dealing with agents, so I'm mainly just looking on my own. That and I talked to the home specialist at my bank to see what I would need at closing, so hopefully I'll be able to just go in, point and buy when I'm ready.
Yea. |

| Stargate Atlantis |
[Sep. 23rd, 2008|03:15 am] |
Okay, I don't normally complain much when shows are canceled, because I'd rather a show go out well versus being dragged through the mud, but...REALLY??
After avoiding the SGA insanity which has occurred since the announced cancellation, I stumbled across the fact that it appears the main reason for cancellation was so the SciFI channel could fund a new spinoff called Stargate Universe. The problem is, SGU looks like it's going to be Stargate University. Seriously, they took the Stargate formula, and made everyone younger by making them all in their mid-twenties.
On top of that, there's a party girl. Seriously. A twenty-something spoiled brat that went to ivy league schools, and wants to follow in her father's political footsteps...but still parties.
What are the plots going to be?? Party girl impregnated by unknown alien at off world beerfest??
Christ, did they not notice that most fans love characters like McKay, Sheppard and Jack? Out of the very few younger cast members, none have a big following in comparison.
Oh, this is going to be bad.
And what does that leave SciFi with?? Ghost shows??
*le sigh* |

| Hurricane Ike |
[Sep. 14th, 2008|12:51 am] |
Hello boys and girls,
I have returned from my evacuation/unwanted vacation, and I was among the lucky ones. For about a week every single target had Ike heading straight for us. On Wednesday, my town announced a mandatory evacuation which would begin at 7am on Thursday, September 11, and I headed out for higher ground (so to speak) as soon as I was finished with work on Wednesday.
Thankfully, the cold front that decided to have fantastic timing (for my small coastal area) moved Ike up north late Thursday and Friday, and we barely dealt with wind, let alone rain.
Anyway, I'm very tired, so forgive me any errors. I took my tv, and computer along with my animals, so I almost felt like I was moving back in once I returned, but everything is hooked up now and in running order.
So...I hope everyone is doing okay, and nighty night. |

Update boys and girls:
Hurricane Ike has forced my poor little coastal town to head for the hills, so I'll be out and about for the next few days. Anyway, I've packed everything of value up, meaning my tv, comp and cats, and am heading for a relative's place that's not in any potential path.
Be careful people.

| Netflix, Hurricanes and Volunteers...oh my |
[Sep. 8th, 2008|04:16 pm] |
I. Hurricane...
So, Ike is heading my way. I get it. I've seen the news. Stop calling me to tell me what I already know more about then you since I actually live on the god damn mother fucking coast. Thank you.
II. Netflix...
I decided to give Netflix a try since I live in the middle of nowhere and must depend upon a Best Buy in the next town to provide my electronic fix. I have determined you end up renting a lot of shit you normally wouldn't watch or buy since you're only renting after all. For instance, I rented a couple of the MST3K DVD's...and that really is the sort of thing I have to be in the mood for apparently. Also, I'm much more selective when purchasing, and therefore I rarely get duds versus when I rent. Oh, and really, I'd say 90% of gay cinema is crap if based upon what I've seen thanks to Netflix.
What else is wrong with it?? The most DVD's I can actually watch and turn around easily seems to be about 8 on average. Many of those eight I have to force myself to watch so I can send them back, thus making the $15 a month worth it over renting in town or buying. My movie viewing mood switches too much to keep up with my que. Blah.
III. Volunteer...
I've determined I want a male companion. Bite me Lizzy. Anyway, based upon the fact that I hate bars and clubs, and I primarily work with females or over the hill males, I'm having to get creative. Yes, it's horrible, but in order to meet some people in decent places with like minds, I'm going to start volunteering for things I'm interested in. While I would love to work with animals, I'd end up taking half of them home, so I'm leaning toward Habitat for Humanity and local political organizations.
What can I say, chemistry.com might be able to do some mathematical equation to determine compatibility, but I seem to have decent luck in the real world. Christ, just give me a decent-hearted, athletic and animal loving geek, and I'll be happy. What can I say, I want someone that can keep up when I'm complaining about trades, donating to the ASPCA and quoting Monty Python. Is that too much to ask?? ;) |

| Dating Game |
[Aug. 23rd, 2008|10:47 am] |
...
I'm really thinking about trying one of those dating sites.
*waits for Lizzy to rant about how I can get anyone I want if I tried*
The thing is, I hate bars. I don't drink. I don't smoke. And I don't like bars period.
I hate clubs.
I'm no longer in college.
Everyone I work with is at least 10 years older, and primarily female.
There aren't any concerts coming through that I want to see, and half the people at them when I do go are drunk, stupid or too young/old/annoying to appreciate the music as they prance around smoking pot and complaining about how anything played on the radio instantly sucks. *growls*
At this point, the only place I feel like checking people out is the tattoo/piercing parlor. And really...they aren't that busy. And I don't need that much done.
That, and I'm not looking for a booty call. Yes Liz. I'm saying I want a semi-long lasting kind of thing. With a male. That's at least bi. Hell has frozen over.
Anyway, my options seem kind of limited since even if there were places to meet people that are like minded...I hate going out without a purpose, and meeting people isn't enough.
*le sigh*
And really, I doubt I'm going to meet a guy the way my family has. My mother met my step-dad through ICQ...which I was using to talk to my friends during high school before she got into it. Go figure. My aunt sped down the same street until my uncle pulled her over multiple times because she thought he was cute. I don't have that kind of money.
So...any suggestions?? |

| The Problem with UK Television |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|12:15 am] |
Okay, as many of you know, I watch a huge amount of UK based TV, which normally isn't a big deal, but there is one major problem. With British TV, by the time the show airs in America, they've almost always shown at least two seasons in Britain. Meaning, when a new fan that has just seen the first airing of the show on BBC America goes to look it up, they can find quite a few spoilers...including character deaths.
*le sigh*
Yes, I know all a person has to do is avoid spoilers, but that's like waving a ciggy in front of someone that's trying to quit, they're hard to turn down. Unfortunately, it's also very hard to continue and watch a show when you know two of your favorite characters are going to die by the end of season 2.
And seriously, what's up with the character deaths?? I won't name who dies since I can't keep up with what I've seen online versus what has aired, but Robin Hood, Torchwood and Primeval all have fairly major character deaths in them. While it probably isn't that big a deal in the UK since shows don't generally go on and on like they do over here, it is a bit annoying. Then again, at least when they say someone will die in a trailer, it's a real character versus so many American shows that kill off someone that was basically brought in to be killed. For example...anyone remember Third Watch?? Every week was "someone will tragically be killed," or some such nonsense, and 99% of the time it was some character that you had never seen or heard of before, but really, they were friends with everyone. Honest.
Blah.
Anyway, for those that can't guess, I'm ranting about Primeval. While the show may not even have kept my attention long enough to get through the second season, now that I know two of my favorites are going to go bye-bye...I may not even stick around for episode three. Unless of course they magically reappear since the entire fucking plot revolves around time travel.
Grr. |

[Aug. 15th, 2008|12:46 am] |
Okay, so far everything is looking good, and it appears it may just be some minor stuff acting up...Now I just have to wait to get my blood work up results.
Other than that, this show must come out on DVD soon...or I'll just end up buying the damn UK versions:

Blah. I'm still feeling quite crappy today. I swear, if I feel better tomorrow, and nothing appears to be majorly wrong after my doctor visit, I'm going to my tattoo shop and getting a couple of new piercings.
Seriously.
And no Lizzy, nothing like your perverted brain is thinking. ;)
*goes to watch Ice Road Truckers*
EDITS:
Also, if I am not sick with the evil that's wiped out a good portion of my family, I am so finding a male. Not to breed with, obviously since the whole bloodline curse thing, but I suddenly can't stop thinking about a house with something more than cats and horses. *le sigh*
It's probably because I'm dealing with this by only talking about it on here, thus no one in my family and very few RL friends know about it.
Oh, also, if something is wrong with my breast that requires a certain procedure...I'm so getting a boob job. Seriously. |

[Aug. 8th, 2008|06:14 pm] |
Okay, I'm finally getting closer to some answers. They called today to "remind" me of my appointment on Monday. I use quotation marks because no one called me to set up the Monday appointment like they were supposed to in the first place.
*le sigh*
Anyway, I'm hoping that on Monday they'll have an idea of what's going on. That being said, I feel like crap today, and I have no energy which is kind of worrying under the circumstances.

| Life on Mars...among other things. |
[Aug. 3rd, 2008|04:44 pm] |
Well, there's nothing new as far as my boob is concerned, and probably won't be until the end of this week. *le sigh* Thus, a post about other stuff for once.
1. Life on Mars - US Version: I never had high hopes for the US version, because I just didn't see how it would work well. First, the location plays a huge part, and they seem to have missed the point by first choosing LA, then NYC after the first pilot flopped. Now, if it was me, I'd have chosen a place like Philly or Boston. Basically, a large city, but not fucking NYC or LA. Actually, San Fran would have been a great idea, but obviously, the people choosing locations aren't worried about that.
Then, they fucked up the characters. Don't get me wrong, I know the US wasn't exactly like the UK (my aunt was a cop, and she wasn't serving coffee), but female officers sure as hell weren't common, let alone respected as detectives. Hell, today they only make up about 10% of the force overall. Anyway, not only did they make Annie a full blown detective, they played up the Annie/Sam angle, and eliminated a huge portion of the Gene/Sam stuff that made the show in the first place.
And finally, to completely fuck up the first pilot...they were PC. The whole point is a modern detective ends up in the 1970's, and thus he has to deal with the dinosaurs. Instead, if you believe the pilot, people weren't smoking in their office or drinking before, during or after work. Now, I know it's hard to believe, but not only do people still do the aforementioned things, but it was much more common back then, and the whole point is Gene isn't exactly an innocent.
BASTARDS!!
Anyway, the first pilot has flopped so badly in test screenings that they've recast, rewritten and relocated. Personally, I think it would work better if they just used the basic idea, and went with making Sam female. Seriously, I don't think they'll ever succeed in rewriting the original to fit the US, so they should just say fuck it and make a totally new project...kind of like BSG where the modern Starbuck is female. I mean really, if they're going to change it, they may as well go all the way.
2. Digital Pianos: I'll be in San Antonio briefly this week, and I hope to find the time to pick up a digital piano (a full blown 88), while I'm there. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate a little more info other than what I've gathered online and in stores.
3. Traveling: I've already built up a lot of vacation time, plus I was awarded an additional day for doing my job. I don't know when I'm going on vacation, but damn I have a lot of time. :D |

| Boob update |
[Jul. 30th, 2008|08:57 pm] |
Okay, I went through the first string of tests today, and they've set me up for a mammogram (spelling??), unfortunately I didn't get any answers today. And probably won't for a week. Which sucks.
Anyway, the Doc said that it probably isn't anything, but she wants to make sure since it could be something serious. Particularly with my background. Seriously, my family has a huge amount of cancer, which supports my theory that my bloodline is supposed to die out.
Other than that, she also said that I may want to go back to wearing normal bras (since working as a police officer, I've mainly worn sports bras due to the vest being so hot), because sports bras could actually irritate the problem I'm having. Of course, the main reason I kept wearing them is because they're cheap, so I have enough to wear without having to wash them every few days. Meaning it looks like I get to go try on some fancy bras that will cost $30 a pop. Bastards. |

| Boob |
[Jul. 23rd, 2008|06:34 pm] |
So. It's not exactly comforting when you describe what's happening, and a doctor tells you they'll see how fast they can get you in. No, what would be comforting would be if they went, "it's probably nothing, but we'll try to get you in about a month."
Blah. Anyway, my appointment is in less than a week with some Women's Health specialist at the hospital.
What's almost worse is the fact that there is a name for what's happening to my poor breast. Well, at least I'm not the only one, right?
Grr. |

| Health, Burn Notice and Muse...oh my?? |
[Jul. 23rd, 2008|12:47 am] |
Okay, this isn't really the place to go into this, but I don't want to tell my family or co-workers until I know what's going on for sure...and I want to tell someone.
Long story short, I'm going to have to have a breast exam. It's probably nothing, but something has occurred that I think I need to get checked out to be safe. So. Yeah.
Anyway, I'm hoping that in such a small area they'll be able to fit me in pretty quick, that way I don't have it hanging over my head. I'll post as soon as I know something for sure. Blah.
What else?? In lighter news, the second season of Burn Notice has been a pleasant surprise since there's generally a sophomore slump so to speak. I'm a little worried they'll mess up the whole Fi/Michael thing, because I kind of liked how she was the one always coming on strong, but I'll wait and see what happens. As long as it doesn't become another 'who slept with who last week??,' I don't really care.
Other than that, I'm this close to hanging out in the tattoo shop to find guys that are more to my taste. Seriously.
Oh, and for a little something something:

| Pondering a home... |
[Jul. 15th, 2008|06:23 pm] |
It's so wrong that the only thing I really miss about the DFW is...Well, to be quite honest a few of the people I worked with at BAMLAND. Seriously. I should miss a lot more, but I don't.
And it doesn't make much sense, because I've never been the type to really go out and do stuff very often with people (can we say anti-social??), but I miss having that option. I mean, I always find people to be around, and I don't hide what I think about pretty much anything, but working for the state doesn't exactly allow me to have the conversations I had at BAM without getting in major trouble.
*le sigh*
And to one person in particular, Lizzy...you know I'm not the praying type, but my thoughts are with you and Zero. If there's anything divine out there, I hope it helps you, because you are one of the most selfless people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. *hugs* I wish I was up there with you baby. |

[Jun. 28th, 2008|08:17 pm] |
Okay, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but just in case:
I LOVE THE VLC MEDIA PLAYER!
I was told using the free downloadable VLC player was a way I could get around region coding a while back, but I hadn't tried it until recently. Well, it worked. Of course, I'd still rather be able to turn my regular DVD player into a region free player so I can see the stuff on my living room television versus my computer monitor, but apparently it's one of the few without any known remote code. *le sigh*
Hmm. I need to get a portable remote free player so I can switch back and forth between my bedroom tv and my living room one.
*goes off to make icons*
EDIT: Hee. I can buy Top Gear DVD's now. Oh, and the German Bonanza box sets. And Muse singles that come with DVD extras. *happy dance* |

| Travel, Downloads and Muse...oh my. |
[Jun. 25th, 2008|06:23 pm] |
Okay, it's official, I should be back in the DFW for about a week around the 4th...
Other than that, I just wanted to mention how much I hate downloading torrents. Seriously, they're too unpredictable. First, it'll take 8 hours. Then, it will take a day. Oh, but wait. What light through yonder window breaks?? Two hours?!? Ah, fuck, it's 8 hours again.
Grr.
That's why I love a certain LJ that has wonderful members that post links to certain downloads so I don't have to deal with torrents.
Other than that, the Muse obsession has gotten worse. As some of you may know, I traveled quite a bit to see them the last time they came through Texas. I also got smashed up against a certain barricade that was busted while they played at Edgefest. However, for some reason, I can't get them out of my head recently, so I'm assuming my brain went into withdrawal or something.
Seriously, I had to drive around Texas for about 9 hours yesterday, and all I played were the Muse albums I had on me. They need to come back through Texas. I need a hit.
